Few things bring fear into a student like the thoughts of a pending examination. No matter how hard you may have studied, everyone feels some degree of apprehension whenever they are about to take an exam. But as Muslims, we are blessed by the mercy of Allah (swt) to have duas before studying, to improve our memory, relieve the tension, fear and give us hope of excellent results.

Dua for Increased Knowledge

1)رَّبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا

Rabbi zidnii ilman

'So high [above all] is Allah, the Sovereign, the Truth. And, [O Muhammad], do not hasten with [recitation of] the Qur'an before its revelation is completed to you, and say, 'My Lord, increase me in knowledge.'' (Qur'an 20:114)

This dua is one that is good for when you are reading to understand what you have learnt, and when you are preparing for examinations. It is also good for absolutely anyone that is trying to learn anything, even if it is memorization of the Qur'an.

2) In a narration by Abu Huraira, it was reported that the holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) used to make a prayer for increase in knowledge by saying: 'Allahummanfa'ni bima ‘allamtani, wa ‘allimni ma yanfa'uni, wa zidni ‘ilman, wal-hamdu lillahi ‘ala kulli hal, wa a'udhu billahi min ‘adhabin-nar (O Allah, benefit me by that which You have taught me, and teach me that which will benefit me, and increase me in knowledge. Praise is to Allah in all situations, and I seek refuge with Allah from the torment of the Fire).' (Sunan Ibn Majah)

3)اللهم انى أسالك علماً نافعاً و رزقاً طيباً و عملاً متقبلاً

Allahumma inni as'aluka ‘Ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa ‘amalan mutaqabbalan

'O Allah! I ask You for knowledge that is of benefit, a good provision and deeds that will be accepted.'

Anas (RAA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (saw) used to say, 'O Allah! Grant me benefit in what you have taught me, and teach me useful knowledge and provide me with knowledge that will benefit me.' Related by An-Nasa'i and Al-Hakim. (Bulugh al-Maram)

Recite these prayers as much as possible after salah and during random hours.

Dua for Clarity of Thoughts

Imagine that you read widely for an examination but couldn't express yourself properly when the answer sheet was placed in front of you in the examination hall. That is a nightmare that no student wants to face, if Allah (swt) wills.

This is why we recommend the famous prayer of Prophet Musa (as) when Allah (swt) asked him to go and visit Pharaoh.

قَالَ رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي

Qaala rabbi ishrah lii sadrii

وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي

Wa yasri li amrii

وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِّن لِّسَانِي

Wa ahlil uqdata min lisaanii

يَفْقَهُوا قَوْلِي

Yafqahuu qaolii

[Moses] said, 'My Lord, expand for me my breast [with assurance]

And ease for me my task

And untie the knot from my tongue

That they may understand my speech' (Qur'an 20:25-28)

This is a great prayer for asking Allah (swt) to give you the ability to express yourself properly when you are being questioned on the things that you have read.

Dua for when something is difficult

Sometimes you can't seem to understand a particular course and no matter how much you've read, you can't shake that feeling of anxiety that comes. This prayer is good for asking Allah (swt) to provide ease for one and it will be beneficial for any student experiencing difficulties in a course.

اللَّهُمَّ لاَ سَهْلاً إِلّاَ مَا جَعَلّتَهٌ سَهْلاً وَأَنّتَ تَجّعَلَ الحَزَنَ إِذَا شِئتَ سَهْلاً

Acdsee pro 6 download. Allâhumma lâ sahla illâ mâ ja‘altahu sahlâ wa anta taj‘alu al-hazana idhâ shi'ta sahlâ.

'Oh Allah! Nothing is easy except what you have made easy. If you wish, you can make the difficult easy.'

All these duas are great for anyone who is studying for an examination. Not only do they give you a sense of relief that you are putting Allah (swt) first in your academics, they also bring you closer to Him as He loves those who ask of Him no matter how little.

Tips for Exams And Students

The Muslim student puts his trust in Allaah when facing the tests of this world, and he seeks His help whilst following the prescribed means, in accordance with the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him):

'The strong believer is better and is more beloved to Allaah than the weak believer, although both are good. Strive to attain that which will benefit you and seek the help of Allaah, and do not feel helpless.' (Saheeh Muslim, hadeeth no. 2664)

Among those means are the following:

  • Turning to Allaah by making du'aa' in any way that is prescribed in Islam, such as saying, 'Rabbiy ishrah li sadri wa yassir li amri (O my Lord, expand my chest and make things easy for me).'
  • Getting used to sleeping early and going to exams on time.
  • Preparing all required or permitted equipment such as pens, rulers and setsquares, calculators and watches, because being well prepared helps one to answer questions.
  • Reciting the du'aa' for leaving the house:'Bismillaah, tawakkaltu ‘ala Allaah, wa laa hawla wa laa quwwata illa Billaah. Allaahumma inni a'oodhu bika an adilla aw udalla, aw azilla aw uzalla, aw azlima aw uzlama, aw ajhala aw yujhala ‘alayya (In the name of Allaah, I put my trust in Allaah, and there is no strength and no power except with Allaah. O Allaah, I seek refuge with You lest I should stray or be led astray, lest I slip (commit a sin unintentionally) or be tripped, lest I oppress or be oppressed, lest I behave foolishly or be treated foolishly).'Do not forget to seek your parents' approval, for their du'aa' for you will be answered.
  • Mention the name of Allaah before you start, for mentioning the name of Allaah is prescribed when beginning any permissible action; this brings blessing, and seeking the help of Allaah is one of the means of strength.
  • Fear Allaah with regard to your classmates, and do not be affected by their anxiety or fear just before the exam, for anxiety is a contagious disease. Instead, make them feel optimistic by saying good words as prescribed in Islam. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was optimistic when he heard the name of Suhayl (which means 'easy') and he said: 'Things have been made easy for you.' He used to like to hear the words ‘Yaa Raashid, when he went out for any purpose. So be optimistic that you and your brothers will pass this exam.
  • Remembering Allaah (dhikr) dispels anxiety and tension. If something is too difficult for you, then pray to Allaah to make it easy for you. Whenever Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) found something too difficult to understand, he would say, 'O You Who taught Ibraaheem, teach me; O You Who caused Sulaymaan to understand, cause me to understand.'
  • Choose a good place to sit during the exam, if you can. Keep your back straight, and sit on the chair in a healthy manner.
  • Look over the exam first. Studies advise spending 10% of the exam time in reading the questions carefully, noting the important words and dividing one's time between the questions.
  • Plan to answer the easy questions first, then the difficult ones. Whilst reading the questions, write notes and ideas which you can use in your answers later.
  • Answer questions according to importance.
  • Start by answering the easy questions which you know. Then move on to the questions which carry high marks, and leave till the end the questions to which you do not know the answers, or which you think will take a long time to produce an answer or which do not carry such high marks.
  • Take your time to answer, for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: 'Deliberation is from Allaah and haste is from the Shaytaan.' (A hasan hadeeth. Saheeh al-Jaami, 3011).
  • Think carefully about the answer and choose the right answer when answering multiple-choice questions. Deal with them in the following manner. If you are sure that you have chosen the right answer, then beware of waswasah (insinuating whispers from the Shaytaan). If you are not sure, then start by eliminating the wrong or unlikely answers, then choose the correct answer based on what you think is most likely to be correct. If you guessed at a correct answer then do not change it unless you are sure that it is wrong – especially if you will lose marks for a wrong answer. Research indicates that the correct answer is usually that which the student thinks of first.
  • In written exams, collect your thoughts before you start to answer.Write an outline for your answer with some words which will indicate the ideas which you want to discuss. Then number the ideas in the sequence in which you want to present them.
Allahumma La Sahla Dua
  • Write the main points of your answer at the beginning of the line, because this is what the examiner is looking for, and he may not see what he is looking for if it is in the middle of the page and he is in a hurry.
  • Devote 10% of the time for reviewing your answers. Take your time in reviewing, especially in mathematical problems and writing numbers. Resist the desire to hand in the exam papers quickly, and do not let the fact that some people are leaving early bother you. They may be among the people who have handed in their papers too early.
  • If you discover after the exam that you answered some questions incorrectly, then take that as a lesson in the importance of being well prepared in the future, and not rushing to answer questions. Accept the will and decree of Allaah and do not fall prey to frustration and despair. Remember the hadeeth of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), 'If anything befalls you, do not say, ‘If only I had done such and such.' Rather say, ‘Qadar Allaah wa maa sha'a kaan (the decree of Allaah and what He wills happened),' for saying ‘if only' opens the door for the Shaytaan.' (Saheeh Muslim, and the first part of this hadeeth was mentioned above).
  • Note that cheating is haraam whether it is in foreign language tests or any other tests. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, 'Whoever cheats is not one of us.' It is wrongdoing and it is a haraam means of attaining a degree or certificate, etc., that you have no right to. The consensus is that cheating is a kind of cooperation in sin and transgression. So do without that which is haraam, and Allaah will suffice you from His bounty. Reject all offers of haraam things that come to you from others. Whoever gives up a thing for the sake of Allaah, Allaah will compensate him with something better. You have to denounce and resist evil, and tell the authorities about any such thing that you see during the exam, or before or after it. This is not the forbidden kind of slander rather it is denouncing evil which is obligatory.

Advise those who buy or sell questions or post them on the Internet etc., or who prepare cheat notes. Tell them to fear Allaah, and tell them of the ruling on what they are doing and on the money they earn from that. Tell them that the time they are spending in preparing these haraam things, if they spent it in studying, or answering previous exams, or helping one another to understand the subject before the exam, that would be better for them than doing these haraam things.

– Remember what you have prepared for the Hereafter, and the questions of the examination in the grave, and how to be saved on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever is saved from the Fire and admitted to Paradise will indeed have succeeded.

Dua for everyday life

We ask Allaah to make us succeed in this world and cause us to be among those who are victorious and saved in the Hereafter, for He is the All-Hearing Who answers prayer.

We ask Allaah to make us succeed in this world and cause us to be among those who are victorious and saved in the Hereafter, for He is the All-Hearing Who answers prayer.

50+ Quotes on May Allah bless you

‘Abdullāh ibn Masʿūd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, 'No person ('no believer' in another report) suffers any anxiety or grief, and then says:

(O Allah, I am your slave, the son of your slave and the son of your maid-slave. Your command over me is forever executed and Your decree over me is just. I ask you by every Name belonging to You, which You have Named Yourself with, or revealed in Your Book, or You taught to any of Your creation, or You have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'ān the life of my heart and the light of my chest, and a departure for my sorrow and a release for my anxiety) except that Allah will remove his sorrow and replace it with happiness.'

They asked, 'O Messenger of Allah, should we memorize these phrases (of the supplication)?' He responded, 'Yes, whoever hears these words should memorize them.'[1]

Transliteration:
Allaahumma innee ʿabduk, wabnu ʿabdik, wabnu amatik, naasiyati beyadik, maadhin fiyya hukmuk, ʿadlun fiyya qadhaa'uk, as'aluka bi kullismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw anzaltahu fee kitaabik, aw ʿalamtahu ahadan min khalqik, awista-tharta bihi fee ʿilmil ghaybi ʿindak, an taj-ʿal al-Qur'aan al-ʿađ̣eema rabeeʿa qalbi, wa noora sadri, wa jalā'a huzni, wa dhahāba hammi.

Duʿā breakdown and reflections:

'O Allah, I am your slave, the son of your slave and the son of your maid-slave'

Ibn al-Qayyim stated in his book, Zād al-Ma'ād,[2] that these words are full of recognition of who Allah is, and in it, the worshipper is calling upon the Lord, acknowledging the Creator, and presenting oneself as the slave of Allah, and the son/daughter of His slaves.

The supplicating believer also places things where they belong by recognizing (the following):

  1. that his fate is in Allah's control
  2. that his destiny takes place according to the Divine Plan
  3. that Allah does whatever He Pleases with it
  4. that the servant can neither bring benefit nor harm to himself
  5. that he cannot bring about his own birth, death, or resurrection
  6. that he has no power to alter his decree except as Allah Wills
  7. that he is completely dependent on his Creator, Cherisher, Sustainer, and Lord
  8. that his own existence is subject to whatever Allah Decrees, and
  9. that Allah is Just, and what He Wills shall Be.

Your Command over me is forever executed and Your Decree over me is just.

This part of the supplication highlights two important points related to the Oneness of Allah:

Allahumma La Sahla Dua Garis

  1. The first is the recognition and confirmation of fate, and that Allah's Decree regarding His slaves shall unfailingly come into being, and that His slaves cannot escape it or repel it.
  2. The second point is that Allah is Just; He does not oppress His servants, and His decree takes place by virtue of His Knowledge and Divine Justice. This is because injustice represents the need, ignorance, incompetence, weakness, and inferiority of an unjust individual, and therefore, such attributes are not Divine, and they cannot come from one who is Omniscient, All-Knowing, Wise, and has no needs.

Allah is the All-Wise (Al-Hakeem), and thus His Wisdom is in effect wherever His Will is executed and ordained. Every atom and every cell in the universe and the entirety of His creation is in need of Him, but He is Rich beyond any need, and His Will affects all of His creation at all times and places. Belief in His Wisdom, therefore, must be combined with full acknowledgement and humble recognition that the slave is unaware of the full scope of matters, even when they are perceived to be difficult, for the All-Wise does not oppress His slaves. He tests them to elevate them, to purify them, to strengthen them, and to increase them in gratitude, guidance, resilience, and purpose. He plans for His slaves better than they plan for themselves, and He wants mercy and salvation for His slaves more than they want it for themselves.

We are in need of exemplifying gratitude towards Him, and as a result, He increases us in blessings for our action of praise.

'And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, ‘If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in blessings]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.' '[3]

I ask you by every Name belonging to You, which You have Named Yourself with, or revealed in Your Book, or You taught to any of Your creation, or You have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You…

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is calling upon Allah by His beautiful Names and Attributes that He named Himself with, revealed in His Book, taught to any of His creation, or preserved in the knowledge of the unseen – to the extent that even the angels amongst His creation do not know of them – in a manner that is powerful, for such a prayer surpasses other prayers and is beloved to Allah and most certainly worthy of a response, because it highlights the slave's humility, knowledge, and recognition of the Lord of the Worlds.

…that You make the Qur'ān the life of my heart and the light of my chest, and a departure for my sorrow and a release for my anxiety

The Qur'an, by Allah, is a cure for every type of illness in this world: mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual, if only we took it as a cure for everything, knowing that it is a means to rebalance the heart and retune the heart to its original natural disposition.

The Qur'an, by Allah, is a light for every type of darkness in this world, if only we embraced that light consistently, knowing that it removes the dark corrosions of sinfulness and heedlessness that accumulate in one's heart.

The Qur'an, by Allah, is a relief for every type of sorrow and anxiety in this world, if only we resorted to it constantly through ease and through difficulty, knowing that it is a means of wiping away one's stress, pain, anxiety, and sorrows. Actual installer download free.

The Qur'an as a cure, however, works only in proportion to how patient and sincere the believer is in embracing it, trusting in its effectiveness, and knowing that Allah's Will, with His Speech as a prescription, will lead to an excellent and complete recovery, for Allah's Promise is always fulfilled.

No person suffers any anxiety or grief, and then says … except that Allah will remove his sorrow and replace it with happiness.'

Dua For Everyday Life

This is a guarantee from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who does not speak about religious matters from himself but rather from revelation.[4] This is a guarantee that the one who prays with this prayer, sincerely, humbly, gratefully, persistently, and patiently, will see that their sorrows are replaced with happiness. The one doing so, however, should not give up quickly on their supplication and should ideally implement as many of the etiquettes of duʿā as possible, such as repenting for one's sins, being in a state of purification, facing the Qiblah, raising one's hands, and so forth.

They asked, 'O Messenger of Allah, should we memorize these phrases (of the supplication)?' He responded, 'Yes, whoever hears these words should memorize them.'

This final part of the narration reminds us of at least two significant points:

  1. It is important to benefit from what we hear as believers, particularly when there is an advice to do so. With this particular narration in mind, remember that every human being will face some type of sorrow or anxiety at one point or another in their lives, and thus it is wise for the believer to know these words and to pray with them often.
  2. It is imperative as believers to also share this duʿā with others for the sake of helping them gain nearness to Allah and relief from their hardships, by His will, while being rewarded for our sharing of knowledge that is of vast benefit. The one who encourages others to do good is rewarded equally – every time they perform that deed – without the performer of the deed losing anything of their reward, as was authentically reported.[5]

Conclusion

This duʿā is one of many reminders to bring us closer to Allah through sincerity, humility, gratitude, submission, and acknowledgement of His Majesty and the status of His Speech. Memorize this invocation and its meanings, pray with it frequently, and teach it to your loved ones, and may Allah the Exalted rectify your affairs, relieve you of your hardships, and reward you immensely for your patience and good deeds in this life and the next.
